Mindful Living

Elon Musk was thrown down cement steps and beaten to an unrecognizable pulp, as a frail, socially awkward kid in a South African school. He was punched in the face so often that he has had operations to repair his nose decades later. By age 16, he had learned to at least throw the first punch. This was nothing, according to Musk and his brother, Kimbal, compared to the mental torture received at home from his Dad, Errol Musk. Elon Musk becomes somber at the thought. Yet, if you google Elon Musk today; business magnate, product.architect and former CEO of Tesla, PayPal, Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), recent acquisition of the social network, Twitter, and his space explorations to the planet Mars are among his many accolades. Elon Musk never took any of it personal.

The earth is 4.5 billion years old. Most of what goes on in the cosmic universe has nothing at all to do with us. We have the absolute honor to live at this particular time in history, when the hard, grunt work has already been done by our ancestors. Yet, here we are personalizing the moments in front of us by constantly reliving unpleasant events and being stuck in a past/present life instead of living in Awe and Appreciation that we are manifestors of a magnificent future, made in the image. We tune in to people and things and stuff instead of tuning into ourselves. We somehow can’t figure out the difference between our souls and our stuff. We collect and compare and despair instead of create and rejoice, relax and release. We worship outside things instead of exploring the hidden treasures within; searching deep within the sorrows and flying high on the joy. We allow unpleasant memories to hi-jack the growth that was meant to be taught or the grace that should have been developed because we choose to be stuck in a moment in time that we cannot change. This beautiful mind that we possess has the ability to move into a future that it architects, with the renewing of our mind. From the beginning, we all have free will and all things are possible, for those who believe. See you on Mars!
