Reflections
As the days of Kwanza begins and the year 2023 comes to a close, one can’t help but to reflect on the year, the decade and even on the life we have lived thus far. Habari Gani? Today is Umoja ~ Unity~ Family, Community, Nation, Race.
Retrospectly reflecting on my own family dynamics, we lost our Matriarch. My Madre. Does that make me the Matriarch? (Idk).. But the wound is still fresh. It still hurts to touch it. I’ve heard it never completely heals. I have always lived life on a level that was a little scary to my mother. Isn’t that what we are supposed to do? Take life to the next level than those who came before us; I had the extreme opportunity to have two parents who both rode this thing called life until the wheels fell off, literally. Each in their own fashion and quite opposite but both living eight decades with me watching for six. So extremely blessed; there are no words that can describe my appreciation.
Embracing the grandeur of a new day, this next chapter in my life and a new year, let’s embark together on a journey of gratitude, unwrapping the gift of each moment. Let’s be present and let’s be fearless. One thing I know for sure is that Mommy ain’t scared no more. I not only have her permission to live this fearless life, but her eternal Assistance. “ ‘Ase” to the Ancestors!” I tip my cup; Namaste!
